Many people in the world are pretenders and liars. Even in the early stages of life many children pretend to be a distinguishable figure. Whether it is a princess or a superhero, these children create false images of themselves to feel important or confident. Although everyone has his or her own reason for doing such a thing, many do it for their own personal gain. Countless amounts of people can relate to this (including myself) because many have told lies or pretended to be something they are not multiple times in their lives. Even as adults, people still lie and pretend. Not only do they create false statements to build images for themselves, they create images in which they can look upon in a positive way. Even though these novels seem to be similar in appearance with the common thread of lying, in reality they are quite different because each novel takes place in a distinctive time period. This exhibits the use of lying and pretending throughout history. Also, the result of the lies told varies from book to book. Some of the lies lead to happy endings; others lead to facing cruel reality and lastly some lead characters to come away with a better understanding in the world. In the end it comes down to analyzing what caused one to go down the path of lying and what intentions one expected to accomplish by lying. These characters have all told lies to escape the fear of being lonely. The little white lies told grow into incredibly messy situations and each character must face the consequences for their actions. Even though lies are considered to be terrible things, some people use them to get away and enjoy themselves. Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff , the main characters in the play â€Å"The Importance of Being Earnest† by Oscar Wilde, do just this. They avoid loneliness and familial responsibilities by creating new identities for themselves when traveling to different parts of Britain.
